Steak

Grab a bottle for 3 Aussie dollars and you won’t be disappointed

Empanadas

Fun little pastry parcels packed with an assortment of fillings; jamon y queso (ham and cheese), pollo (chicken) and carne (beef) were our favorites. Empanadas can also be found in Chile and Peru, but we seemed to love Argentina’s the most

Dulce de leche

Essentially it’s a caramel spread, but its ohhh so good on almost anything! It’s found throughout most of South America but none as prominent as in Argentina

Chimichurri

The tastiest condiment ever! Consists of olive oil, garlic, chilli pepper and herbs (Devine with steak and crusty bread)

Mate

A strong herbal tea that is very close to most Argentine’s hearts. You see almost everyone, no matter where the are, what time it is, who they are with, or even what age, carry a flask of hot water, a sachet of Yerba (the mate herb) and mate cup which they constantly fill and sip through a metal straw. Drinking mate is part of social life and culture here. It wasn’t quite our cup of tea but was worth a try.
